"If your child is not in attendance for at least 90% of the time while in Elementary School, he/she has a 70% chance of not graduating high school."
School Day: 9:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
Absences: A student who will need to be absent from school for permissible reasons as outlined in this policy will have the verified permission of his/her parents or legal guardians and have the approval of the principal. By the next school day after the absence, it shall be the responsibility of the parents or guardians to notify the school regarding the reason for each absence that had not been pre-approved.
Excused absences may be given for the following reasons:
~Death in the family or other family emergency
~Illness of student. A written statement from a physician may be required after five days of absence.
~Appointments for medical and dental care. Physician’s statement required.
~Legal reasons
~Pre-approved family leave. See Administrators for details.
Unexcused absences are those that are not justified by the parent or guardian according to the rules of this policy.
Minimum Attendance: A student may be in jeopardy of being retained if he/she fails to attend school for at least 160 days in a school year.
Florida Law 232.01 requires children ages 6-16 to be in regular attendance in school and holds parents accountable for meeting this requirement (232.09 F.S.). Children are in jeopardy of violating these statues if they have:
*5 or more unexcused absences within a calendar month
*10 or more unexcused absences within a 90 calendar day period
Students in grades 6-12 who are less than five minutes late to class shall be given a tardy. Students that are more than 5 minutes late to class will be given a Late Absence.Five unexcused tardies shall result in an unexcused absence.
